The regional lottery for the 2025 college football U-League has been completed. Both the U-League 1 (1st Division) and the U-League 2 (2nd Division) will start on April 18.
On the 28th, the 2025 U-League regional lottery was held at the Jongno-gu Football Center in Seoul. The regional lottery ceremony was broadcast live on the YouTube channel.
The U-League was divided into 1st and 2nd divisions for the first time in 2022, and this year marked the 4th year of the introduction of the promotion system. This year, a total of 78 teams are participating, of which 36 teams are in the first division and 42 teams are in the second division. U-League 1 (1~6 regions) will have 6 teams in each region, and U-League 2 (7~12 regions) will have 7 teams in each region. Along with the home-and-away format, the first division will play 10 games per team, and the second division will play 12 games per team.
The U-League 1 King of Kings tournament will be held as a tournament with 12 teams participating as last year. The teams that finished 1st and 2nd in each U-League 1 region will qualify. In addition, the lowest place in each U-League 1 region (6 teams in total) will be relegated, and the 1st place in each U-League 2 region (6 teams in total) will be promoted. According to last year's results, Full Gospel General Theological Seminary, Jangan University, Howon University, Wonkwang University, Halla University, and Tongmyung University will be promoted to challenge the first division.
As a result of the draw, Sunmundae, the winner of last year's U-League 1 Wangjungwang Tournament, was assigned to the 5th region. The same region includes Inje University and Calvin University, which made a 'sensational wave of promoted teams' by reaching the top 8 of the Wangjungwang Tournament last year. It is also noteworthy that Korea University and Chung-Ang University, which boast two-time champions of the King of Kings, are organized side by side in the first region.
Meanwhile, starting this year, the U-League has also undergone some changes in its rules in accordance with the IFAB rules of the game and the application of FIFA protocols for concussion replacement. Each team can use one 'concussion substitution' per game, regardless of the number of substitutions. When using concussion substitution, the opposing team can make additional substitutions regardless of concussion symptoms.
